Ground/Tower controller view.

Post by Pieces »

What does a PE tower/ground controller see? I assume the RADAR positions have a virtual scope, but I really don't have any idea how the tower and ground positions work.

I saw the Facebook post with Kevin's notes and it got me curious. Also, I wasn't able to attend the virtual tour a few months back. Are there screenshots from that floating around anywhere?

It's not practical for us to use an 'out the window' view for all the fields at the same time, so we use the top-down radar view, zoomed in to the field of interest. We can enabled taxiway and runway identifiers, too.

Makes sense. Planes that have not been radar identified are then just VFR targets or does the zoomed view provide more detail?

We have a specific (fictious) tower mode that shows callsigns for aircraft regardless of squawk mode/code. That way, we can simulate the level of service you would get with a visual tower.
