LOST COMMS XPlane v 10.4 beta 9

Post by Robert McDonald »

Hi all,

I have recently encountered a problem where I'm losing connection to PE about midway in my flight between KLAS and KSAN. The waypoint I dropped out today at was MOMAR. Is anyone ELSE experiencing loss of comms to PE since upgrading to beta 9 of XPlane?

Is your sim crashing or are you just being disconnected from the PE network?

Do the flight again and post the log.txt file and someone may be able to help you out with that info too.

Hi all,

Re did the flight today (Wednesday August 18th) same deal, lost comms in almost the identical spot... posting the log.txt

The flight continued.. but no comms. Tried to disco then reconnect the PE Plugin from within XPlane... it reported "disconnected" then "connected to pilot edge" when I tried that, but I still could NOT communicate with PE.

Almost looks like a Carenado issue, though I'm by no means an expert at reading logs. If it wasn't there before, it's probably the beta that's causing problems.

Edit - Hmm, actually, it looks like it's something about the CSLs. I have no idea about Gizmo as I don't have it installed, but that's something to look into. If the problem persists into the release version, you'll just have to remove all plugins and re-insert them 1 by 1 until there's a conflict.

I also, am not an expert, but I do not believe it to be a problem specifically with Carenado.
The problem may lie with the Gizmo plug-in.

Code: Select all

Clean exit from threads.
Gizmo64: Plugin Disable..
Gizmo64: Destroying Mouse Trap..
Gizmo64: UnRegister key sniffer..
Gizmo64: UnRegister Callbacks..
Gizmo64: gizmo_Stop
Gizmo64: Shutting down Lua VM
Gizmo64: Releasing X-Plane overrides: sim/operation/override/*
Gizmo64: Killing curl..
Gizmo64: Killing mapping..
Gizmo64: Killing particles..
Gizmo64: Thread sleep..
Gizmo64: curl_global_cleanup..
Gizmo64: Plugin Disabled.
SkyMaxx Pro: SilverLining deleted.
Gizmo64: XPluginStop() complete.

Suggested DIY Troubleshooting:

Try to see if there is an update for Gizmo.
If none, it may be an issue with the latest X-Plane beta as Nelson has suggested. Launch your updater application and uncheck "Beta". Run the updater with it unchecked and it will return it to the last release version.

If it still fails, I'm not sure what to tell you. Contact PE for tech support.

This could also be time-based... about how long are you into the flight?
Try that same time in a different area of PE coverage area and see if it happens.

Aircraft specific? Try different aircraft along that route. Maybe default aircraft that doesn't use any custom plug-ins? (I know... nasty words haha)

Does this happen during/near a frequency change?

This only happened after the XP Beta update so, that is most likely the cause. If this is a aircraft/plug-in developer issue, they likely won't release an update to patch things up until at least in RC stage but worth reporting to them if found to be an issue with their plug-in.

Kyle, I'm actually not so sure about Gizmo - that was located at the very end of the log, right before XP shut down. Unless it was a XP crash, I doubt it was the cause. It's hard to troubleshoot from a Beta without removing all the plugins, so I would honestly just go back to .36 and wait for the official release. Maybe it'll be fixed by then. From what I've read (or lack thereof), there's a chance this is an isolated issue.

PS - What is Gizmo? Is it sort of like LUA?

It's like SASL( which Carenado uses I believe).

Unlike SASL though where it only runs when you use a product that uses SASL, Gizmo is always running.

See attached Pilot_edge_Out text file (zipped)

Please note Pilot Edge comms worked fine entire flight until just after Lyndi. I was cleared LOC 27 appch via SoCal APPCH and then lost comms. this happens EVERY flight, both directions, it is not just a KSAN issue.

Xplane 10.4 Beta 9.

Latest PE.

Note: This problem did not occur until Beta 9 xplane 10.4
