PE Audio Dropouts

I've been having some issues lately receiving audio from PE, specifically in the X-Plane client. (I'm not sure about the FSX/P3D client.) Audio from controllers periodically and randomly drops out momentarily, usually enough to obscure a fix or numeral. At first, I thought it was the VHF audio filter that I run, since it's known to mar inputs when the CPU is under heavy load, but a recent shared cockpit revealed that we had common dropouts. Watching other streams in the past few days also shows that they experience the same type of dropouts.

Just wanted to report this and see if there's a diagnosis or solution. Thank you!

can you find a dropout in a video and then listen to the audio recording on the PE web site to see if it also occurs?

is it with a single controller or lots of controllers?

Hi Keith,

I've had it across multiple days, which I assume also includes multiple controllers. I have to verify that over time though.

I do have some Twitch recordings that I can reference. The problem will be lining them up with the PE automatic recordings. Let me look into it a bit and I'll get back to you.

Thanks!

I, too, have had similar issues (XP10 on Windows). I don't hear the same in the audio recordings, however. I'm not sure the dropouts are always consistent amongst all pilots logged into the network simultaneously. I've heard controllers make calls that I received 5x5, but the receiving pilots request a repeat of some or all of the transmission because it broke up on their end.

I have at least one example available. It comes from a stream yesterday by musicman4sure, where I actually promised to report the audio dropouts.

Jump to time 22:06 for a clearance to KLAS: http://www.twitch.tv/musicman4sure/v/36830507
The corresponding PE recording at time 08:10: http://assets.pilotedge.net/recordings/ ... _17510.mp3

Some of the dropouts are correlated, but not all. For example, in musicman's stream, a drop occurs at "CRESO THREE", where in the PE recording, it does not. I don't have time to search for more examples, but I remember them occurring as the stream progressed, so following it along should reveal them.

Thanks again!

I've never had a problem with an audio dropout, but there is one particularly friendly controller who I think of as "Mr. Nice Guy" who frequently has issues understanding my transmission. (The guy is excellent - he never takes an impatient or annoyed tone as controllers sometimes do.) I'm guessing it's because I'm using my imac's mike instead of an audio headset and it's picking up engine noise, and for some reason he has trouble with that more than the other controllers. I have a plantronics USB headset coming in a day or two to see if that helps with Mr Nice Guy.

He may have more trouble with certain sounds than others due to his headset/audio settings.

I just wanted to follow up on this topic. Is there any sort of diagnosis or resolution to this problem? I'm still experiencing the dropouts in the manner described in the initial post. Thank you!

I'm not aware of any parameters that we can change in the audio libraries which would have any effect on this. It doesn't appear this is widespread enough to warrant significant concern.

For what it is worth I have noted a problem hearing one of the new male controllers (not sure his name). There have been some nights when he is working clearance delivery and I can hear the higher than normal "say again". I have also noted additional drop outs when talking to just this controller.

Perhaps this controller's Internet connection is sub-par back to the server?
