Sound could not open capture device

Since upgrading to the latest PE Client yesterday, July 21st, my connection to PE was at first a confused mess (engine sound fading in and out, voice of controller at Oshkosh also fading in and out). Today I simply cannot connect to the Client and receive the above error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Client, sound in the sim, P3dv4, is fine, birds are chirping engine is good. Works just find in connecting to VATSIM. I've reviewed and tried fixes to this error - no change. Any thoughts?
