[Dec 13 2-4p PST, 2200z] PE Event: Santa Scramble

Come and join us on Thursday, Dec 13, 2-4pm PST (2200-0000z) for Santa Scramble on PilotEdge!

We're trying something a little different with the time of day, and running an event midweek instead of on a weekend. If you haven't been able to make the events in the past (particularly for a European customers), this might be the one to try!

Kick off at trusty ol' Santa Barbara, pop into Santa Monica and finish off at Santa Ana (John Wayne). VFR or IFR, your call, and pick any aircraft you like.

If you do go VFR, be prepared to fly either the SFRA, or Mini-route to transition the LAX Bravo from SMO to SNA. Preferred IFR routes for props, turboprops and jets will be posted here in the coming days.

SBA-SMO IFR routes:
Jets: HENER FIM V186 DARTS (11,000)
Turboprops: HENER FIM V186 DARTS (9,000)
Piston: KWANG CMA VNY V186 DARTS (5,000)

SMO-SNA IFR routes:
Jets: SLI (5,000)
Turboprops: SMO SMO125R V64 SLI (5,000)
Piston: SMO SMO125R V64 SLI (4,000)

Departure instructions out of SMO are typically "runway heading until crossing then fly heading [250 for piston] [265 for jets/tp], vectors SMO"

That's really a bad time for east coast people. The event starts at 5pm EST which is when people drive home...I wish you had a closing event time of at least one hour later (8pm EST).

It's hard to make a time that works for everyone. We will be sure to use another time on the next one.

How early can we file flight plans?

Can we file both flight plans at once in rapid succession and send OR only do the KSBA-KSMO first and then file KSMO-KSNA on the ground in Santa Monica?

I ask because there is an "appointment time" for the flight as part of the flight plan.

Thanks.

The system only tracks one flight plan per aircraft. Also, there is little benefit to filing more than a few minutes in advance of calling for clearance (although those few minutes DO help as it allows the controller to notice it (under most circumstances) and do some processing prior to your call).

Don't worry about the times in the flight plan, they're not used by the ATC system at the moment.
