8 March 2100EST - Spot Landing Compeition

Post by ChrisS »

Gents,

Who: You! And your friends. And me. Probably Peter.

What: Spot Landing Competition

Where: CA89 - Skylark Field Scenery download here.

When: Sunday, 8 March 15, 2100 EST

Why: After numerous helicopter events, it's time to do something with our weird and wonderful friends from the fixed wing community.

The CA89 scenery includes a few extra runway markings that we can use to judge a spot landing competition. Last Sunday's helicopter fly-in was a huge success, and hopefully this new event will be just as entertaining. Plan is to meet up at CA89 in time for a 2100EST start.

Comms on 123.45.

Hope to see you there.

You can move me into the yes I'll be there column.

For the record, this is how you mark a runway for a landing competition. ;)

And for those wondering what the goal is during a spot landing competition, it's this.

I may have some experience with this one. ;)

If needed I can propose a set of grading rules as we get a little closer.

A competition Peter doesn't need brakes for. We're all in trouble now .

Was that a crosswind landing, or intentionally single wheeled just for the competition?

I still have no idea what the heck happened with those brakes.

Crosswind, it was about a 15 knot direct crosswind. Under the rules I competed under you couldn't do a 1 wheel landing like that unless there was a wind.

Here's the video of a prior landing from that same day which demonstrates the wind.

Just a quick reminder about tonight's event. We will probably restrict the use of aircraft to those supported by PilotEdge CSLs, but feel free to bring whatever aircraft you'd like if you just want to participate for fun.

I'd also recommend the free download of the HD Mesh V3 for SoCal available for free here. There may be very minor terrain height differences from the stock X-Plane scenery.

See you all tonight. I'll do the usual brief at 2100EST on 123.45.

daylight savings just kicked in, so it's EDT here in the USA. Can you confirm the zulu time for the event?

Sounds fun - good point about the time confusion. Also - I assume everyone should be running the same (real) weather? No 100 kt headwinds for final :)
