VFR Group Flight #24
Sand, snow, and sea, pack your skis and surfboards

We'll be doing another early morning VFR groupflight this Saturday 1/16. It's ZLA's turn again. The format introduced on the last one worked OK so let's stick with it. You know where we initiate our groupflight but you do not know where your flight terminates. The briefing on the discord didn't workout flawlessly for everyone so let's switch that back to 122.75.

Start your sim of choice, load up at a vacant ramp location in Apple Valley (KAPV) and log into the Pilotedge network to join. The briefing starts at 8:00am PST on 122.75. After everyone is informed and ready we will advise when we switch to the CTAF frequency for departure.

We'll be leaving southbound and execute an immediate continuous climb into the high mountains. We'll find our way through the top ridges for a touch-and-go in snowy white Big Bear City (L35). After we completed that we'll descend through an S-turn southbound to cross the Banning Pass. Mind all those drones there while descending! If there's time we can execute a second touch-and-go in in Hemet (KHMT). Then it's time to follow the I-15 and squeeze ourself into the Rainbow Pass. I will appoint everyone their destination for today. Some of us will be have the opportunity to land at the towered Carlsbad Palomar airport (KCRQ), the others will land in Oceanside (KOKB). Whatever your destination today will be, it's now time to grab your surfboards and head to the beach. You did leave your skis at L35, right?

This is a pretty basic procedure flight but with great views and an exciting new element. It is suitable for beginners however because it might include a landing at a class D airport, I highly recommend you to achieve at least the CAT-ratings up to the CAT-2 if you'd like to join. Preferably fly an aircraft that is easily able to maintain a cruise speed of around 90 kts.
