JS31 and Mode-C

Since I've seen a video of Keith flying the amazing JS31 on PE: It seems the transponder can only be set to stby and on, but not to alt (mode-c). As controllers, do you get altitude reporting from JS31s flying online?

It's mislabeling of the transponder. I know that the 'stages' of the transponder knob are off, stdby, alt and test in X-Plane. So, the trick is just go one past stdby and ignore the label at that point. I also double check with ATC when flying a new aircraft type most of the time.
