UPDATE 21 Jan 2019
Aerosoft A320/319 P3Dv4 will auto switch the PE Client from the Transponder Panel
No need for a Lua file configuation as shown below.

Hello,

I am revisiting this subject once again because I have noticed lately some pilots not having their transponders switched to ALT Mode. This topic has been discussed before, by me and others, but unfortunately threads tend to disappear down the list over time.

So for newer pilots on Pilotedge or simply those who don’t know, here we go.

Can I Switch the Pilotedge Client to Mode C [NORMAL] from the Transponder fitted to my aircraft panel ?

Short answer : Yes you can, but with restrictions, I’ll cover this below.

If you are using Flight Simulator X or Prepar3D v2/v3/v4.1 it is possible to switch the pilotedge client from standby to Mode Charlie from the transponder fitted in your aircraft panel, in some but not all cases.

To do this you require:

[1] A registered copy of FSUIPC4 or 5 installed - (by Peter Dowson) http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

[2] The Lua macro file for the specific model of transponder installed on your aircraft panel. Download Here

[3] FSUIPC configured to work with the Lua macro file.

Before I start with the explaining how to do this, here is a list of Transponder models that will work.
(Take a look at those short videos, showing them working.)

(1) Garmin GTX320 GTX320 Video
(2) Garmin GTX327 GTX327 Video
(3) Bendix/King KT70 TSO KT70 TSO Video
(4) Bendix/King KT76A
(5) Bendix/King KT76C TSO
(6) Collins RTU4200
(7) Collins RTU4220
(8) Collins TDR94D TDR94D Video
(9) Collins Mode S : 822-1338-xxx (PMDG NGX and other ?) PMDG Video sorry about the noise
(10) Garmin G1000
(11) L3 Mode S : 7517800-01-0102A (FSLabs A320X)

(NB. PMDG B777/737NG aircraft transponders do not require a Lua file to work, just have FSUIPC installed)

(NB. FSLabs A320X does not require a Lua file to work, just have FSUIPC installed)

Now here is a list of aircraft that have these transponder models installed.

*B200 King Air HD Series [Carenardo]
*C90B King Air HD Series [Carenardo]

    (9) Carenardo Garmin G1000 (no Ident)
    All Models

* The asterisk shown above is to let you that I have not tested this unit, as I do not have them installed in my simulator.
Once I can confirm they do work, I will remove the asterisk.

[1] The Carenardo Collins TDR94D transponder above has only On/Off control, so Mode C will initiate in the On position.

[2] The Carenardo Citation CJ2 525A has Dual Transponders, both have been checked and confirmed to work with PE Client.

[3] In the above each developer may have different transponder models, but retain the same code for Mode C on the rotor switch.
eg. A2A Simulations KT76C Lua file will most likely work on the A2A KT76A unit, even though it is a different model try
using the same Lua macro file for both.

[4] If you manually send an Ident by pressing the [Ident] button on the client module, the ident light on the module will flash for
a few seconds. Pressing the [Ident] button on the aircraft panel transponder will not make the client module ident light flash,
but it will still send an Ident to ATC.

[5] The Carenardo King Air C90 GTX transponder works differently than other units, it starts with the transponder in the [ON] and [ALT]
mode positions already set, so I have made this Lua script so that it will reset them both to the [STBY] and [OFF] positions upon
startup.
Also, I noticed that [Ident] would remain annunciated on the screen continuously, so i have made it so that after
2 sec it will reset.

How To Install and Configure

Rather than typing the instructions, I decided to make a short instructional video instead , best viewed in [HD 1080p]

But before you watch the video :
[1] Install and register FSUIPC
[2] Download the Lua Script files from Download Here and copy the files you require into your sim MODULES folder.

Watch Installation Video

Well I think that’s about it hope this has helped you get online with Pilotedge with less fuss. (or maybe I’ve made it worse ;) )

The list of aircraft above is by no means complete I’m sure there are probably more, feel free to give me some feedback if you find something
incorrect or have another aircraft you know that works I can add to the list.

I have not been able to get the Flight One GTN750/650 to work, I think it may be because there is no physical knob or rotor switch and the transponder is integrated
within the unit, also I have not checked the Carenardo G1000 unit as yet, but I expect the same situation applies to this unit. I may just download
one of these aircraft in future to check it out.

A extra bonus video.

Suggestion. For completeness it might be a good idea to also include how to change the mode using only the PE client "widget". Someone new to the PE network might not realize there's an alternate method should it not work using the simulator's panel.

Note, on many systems the PE client window will be hidden under the simulator's window. On Windows PC's, it's possible to pull to the front using ALT-TAB,

Thanks for the hard work. This sort of information is vital to the community.

Will the lua file also work for the IDNT button on the aircraft's transponder?

Ok good.

Any units above that has [with Ident] next to it will work, but to make sure because the PE client transponder light will not flash, do a check with the controller when you next go online.

(NB. PMDG B777/737NG aircraft transponders do not require a Lua file to work, but they must be set to “Broadcast Mode” to do this.)

Can you explain how to accomplish this? Thanks!

You should not have to do anything Randall.

I found that after installing P3Dv4.1 and then installing the PMDG 737NGX and FSUIPC that the PE Client would switch to " Mode C" upon selecting anything other than standby mode.

To find more information on this subject for the PMDG B777 or B737 go to the FSUIPC Documents directory in your P3D modules directory, and read the offset mapping for the B777 or B737.

Ahh, thanks Merv. I see my error. I forgot to reinstall FSUIPC into P3D.
