TEC Route question.

Post by FDXDave »

So flying from TORRANCE to CAMARILLO I filed the SCTN26 Route. ( SMO VNY )
Clearance states, this route. LIMBO V64 SMO125 SMO VNY. So questions are
1. why not have the actual TEC route state the above instead of two VOR's?
2. Further instruction was to fly runway heading ie RW 29L HDG294 and intercept the LAX radial 170 to LIMBO. This is almost a U-turn. Then from Limbo take V64 to the SANTA MONICA 125 Radial into SANTA MONICA, exact opposite direction from which I just came... then Direct to VAN NUYS Direct. It seams like I'm doing circles. You head north after taking off, then make a hard left turn, then go back to LAX VOR area where you just were at. Anyway, just seams like a lot of confusing turns and I don't understand the purpose. Figure it would just be easier to stick with the actual TEC Route SMO VNY. The biggest question I have I guess, is why do you even add LIMBO to the instruction?

I'm new to the Socal area. So these TEC routes are new to me.

EDIT: Looking at other flights which have done this city pair I think I know the method behind this. Has to do with LAX operating West bound?

Dave,

Been there. One of my first flights on PE, my first TEC route ever, and my first post on the PE Forums was regarding this issue. You don't go north on V64 after Limbo, you go east.

This thread will help clear it up . . . viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4991

Keith also gives some great insight on why the local IFR departure instructions are not in the TEC route.

Thank you for that. Much appreciated. Nice to know I'm not alone. Lol.

Still curious to why the published TEC route doesn't have LIMBO in the procedure?
Why does it have to be given out verbally? If done this way everytime...

Keith explains it well in that thread. Multiple airports use the same TEC route. They each have local IFR departure instructions to get onto the common TEC route.
