depiction of fog layers in X-Plane 11

Post by Thomas_Horn »

just finished a flight to Bowerman airport (KHQM) with my rusty Bonanza in X-Plane 11 and FSGRW as the weather program.
What I noticed on the final approach was, that the airport was clearly visible from about 1000 ft AGL (although there where clouds around), but when descending further, the airplane was completely flying in fog, as reported by local ATIS, and I hardly managed to land after reaching minimums at 216 ft.

So - why can I see the airport from 1000ft AGL while I cannot see it from 500 ft AGL...? Is this a bug in the weather depiction of X-Plane...?
X-Plane 11.32, Windows 10, 4.8 GHz 7700K, 16 GB RAM. 4K 55'' Screen resolution with Nvidia GTX 1070. ELITE and PFC flight controls

It's a bug. They should be releasing a fix for that in 3.0 if i remember right.
This was a live stream of LR and this bug was discussed. I don't remember if it was pt 1 or pt 2 though.
But i do remember them saying that soon if you are flying over broken layer of clouds you will be able to see the runway through the holes in the clouds. They are redrawing how the layers are done.
