Headset with Side Tone
Headset with Side Tone
I'm trying to buy new headset. Nothing fancy or expensive...Primary use is Flight Sim and PE. I'm having a hard time finding any that have side tone (or as some call it, mic monitoring). Any suggestions out there?
Re: Headset with Side Tone
Do you mean one that you can hear yourself? If so, that’s just a simple windows setting. Although, it’s not perfect as there is a minor delay.

Yes, that's what I mean. I tried the built in "listen" function of Windows and didn't like the delay. I had a cheap Turtle Beach headset. Many if not all TBs have side tone but the mic on mine was terrible so tossed it and now I'm not a TB fan.kevin meyers wrote:Do you mean one that you can hear yourself? Re: Headset with Side Tone
Side tone is important in a real world aircraft to help set the squelch on the intercom correctly, otherwise there's no way of knowing if your pax can hear you, or if the intercom is open all the time. Since that's not a factor in home simming, though, I find the lack of side tone doesn't matter in the slightest. If ATC isn't having any trouble hearing you, then you're all set.

I don't necessarily dissagree with you, but I fly in the real world too and I find it a little distracting when I can't hear how I sound. Maybe I just need to get used to it...apparantly very few vendors have that capability which was a surprise to me.
Thx much.

Hi Cozyn. I purchased the below headset a little while ago. They are not cheap $150.00. But by far the best sounding headset with mic i ever had. They are also 7.1 surround sound gaming headphones. They also come with the sidetone your looking for. Be default the sidetone was on and i didn't know why i could hear myself. Lol. But was easy enough to turn off and on when needed. And i never thought about the testing aspect in the RW . Good point.
So anyway if you do get these don't forget to download the drivers or else they won't work right.

Thanks Much.
Those are more than I was looking to spend but definitely a nice option. I found Corsair has a set (HS50) that users claim to have side-tone. The reviews aren't the best however. I may just have to get used to it until I'm willing to spend some extra $.
Thanks again.

Just to let others know that may come across this in the future. I ended up getting a pair of Steele Series Arctis 5 headsets for $79. They have pretty good side tone and are pretty comfortable.
