IFR clearance frequency I-8 out of Catalina

Post by maxmoe »

Hello,

The other day I completed my I-8. I was under the impression that out of KAVX you request your IFR clearance with Socal Departure on 127.4

The ATC service this day advised me instead to request IFR clearance on a specific GROUND frequency (I think it was 122.22 or similar), which I at the end did, but I could not find the advised frequencies in any of the plates for KAVX.

Any insight?

I-8 rating was updated a few days ago to reflect this. 122.20 is a frequency that we use to simulate the phone call you'd make to the tracon/center to get your release. In most cases, you can't reach approach on the ground at a non-towered airport. Once we introduced true line of sight comms on PE a while ago, that became the case here, too, so we introduced that frequency. It works up to 30kts (to ensure it's only used on ground), with reception getting worse as you get closer to that speed :)

Just noticed the top of rating was updated, but not the transcript portion. Fixed that.
