TEC Route Classification

M is for turboprops only. The Legacy would be a P, for prop with speeds >190kts.

Since this has come up before, turboprops are not the same as turbocharged props. A more apt name for turboprops would be turbine-props since the engines are basically a jet/turbine engine.

Thanks. I know turbocharged vs turboprop. In a prior life I was was an F-14 pilot and eventually the Navy’s Director of Aviation Propulsion and Power. Now I fly GA, commercial & instrument. But TEC routes not so much... it just didn’t seem logical to put an airplane cruising at 250kts and climbing like a rocket on a 5000’ route vs the M route at 9000’. I didn’t know if it (a turbocharged Legacy) qualified as “Special” in the M classification.
