Handoff, Approach to Tower

Post by arsindelve »

I've had a few occasions where approach does not hand me off to the tower (this is not a criticism, I know how busy they are and what a hard job this can be). My question is when should I say something, and what should I say? I've been calling around 5 miles out and asking approach if they would like me to switch frequency or stay with them? Does this seem appropriate or is there a better way?

Thanks!

Yes, that’s absolutely the correct thing for you to do. This happens in the real world, too. Especially if you’re VFR, it’s questionable as to if you’re even allowed to enter the class D without talking to the tower.
