What a blast. Having others on CTAF was great. Pilots were coordinating and counting off positions. Wow really cool. It was like flying for real on a Sunday. Thanks Ken and Chris. Great work!!!!

Re: March 29th - Poker Run!
Just landed at Big Bear and got my last card....
Made the Agua Dulce to Crystal flight in an X-Plane Piper Cub, following the power lines and roads until I found the airport. Made the first three flights in the Lancair Legacy on FSX and boy, that's a fast plane. Final flight was in X-Plane in a freeware DHC-6 that's actually pretty good. It was fun to try different things, especially staying off the tried and true IFR magenta lines.
Thanks everyone especially Ken's website that supported everything!
I'm looking forward to that free day of VATSIM membership.

Re: March 29th - Poker Run!
Hi guys,
What a blast! I arrived about a half hour late at Big Bear City; my Piper Archer 2 is no speedster. I had an Ace high (with a ten kicker), which puts me around 34th place, I guess. I arrived too late for the official results, but I hope history will record my participation in some way.
Like Nelson, I had never experienced CTAF communications before, and I had a great time -- and learned a ton about how CTAF operates in practice.
The biggest challenge for me was my lack of X-Plane scenery after the first two airfields. The last three all had threes on the runways and ramps! Big Bear was especially challenging -- it was like landing in a hillside forest. But I managed.
My silliest mistake was contacting Santa Barbara approach to transition their Charlie when I was about 5000 feet above the Charlie shelf, without mentioning my altitude! I left out the one crucial piece of info the controller needed. The controller was nice about it, though; just asked me to squawk VFR. Now I know to report that all-important altitude.
Anyway, thanks to Chris and Ken and Peter and all else for setting this up! I hope we can do something similar again.

Re: March 29th - Poker Run!
I had a blast today as well. Thanks to all who participated for making it such a great event. There was some great work on the CTAF frequencies and some pretty good flying all around. I think everyone really captured the spirit of the event, which is the best thing of all.

Ah man, without that Queen of Diamonds I would have been in last. Can't even lose properly.
