Had the necessity to text w/ the controller this evening... Was unable to do that. I could see the controller's message to me, was unable to respond. Tried typing a reply but was sending commands to the airplane/simulator as I typed. Tried clicking on the dialogue box without success. Is there a designated place to enter text? Is there a way to see what you're typing? I searched the forums but found no instructions. Could I trouble someone for some specific (idiot proof) instructions for texting... I'm running Windows 7, X-Plane v9.7.
Grateful for your help,
Herb

Re: Texting w/ controller
you could try:
.msg <callsign> <message>
For example ...
.msg N81822 Hello there
The PE client is based on Squawk Box v3, although likely only a subset is supported, a full list of "dot" commands is found here:
http://squawkbox.ca/doc/features/dotcommands.php

Re: Texting w/ controller
Orest, The PE client for FS2004/FSX is based on Squawkbox 4....but the X-Plane client was written from scratch.
Herb, the x-plane client allows for one way communication only. If you need to text the controller, for now, log into our teamspeak server (pilotedge.net) and raise them there.
Edit: moved to the X-Plane specific forum.
