IPAD

Post by JustinWheat »

Are there any good suggestions for a program for the Ipad that shows your aircraft position over a moving vfr map? It intergrates with FSX and translates your position over the vfr sectional map. Another question, how do I update the Garmin 530 from reality-xp? Is this possible? I know your can update your fms from navigraph but wondering how to for the add on gps. Thanks for your help. Suggestions are welcomed.

I picked up "ForeFlight" which works amazing with FSX. You have to purchase a little $5 application called "FSXFlight" that will link FSX to ForeFlight. It gives you basically everything you'd ever want.

Just a note that you'll also need to install FSUIPC for it to work, which is free (even though it will ask for money, you can just use the freeware features to utilize ForeFlight.)

Here are the links:

If you're not already a ForeFlight user, I believe there are some low-cost charting applications that will also do position overlays, but I can't quite remember the name.

Thanks for the help. One more quick question. What Ipad version do you prefer to run this application? Will Ipad2 be efficient enough or do I need to upgrade to the Ipad4 and what about the amount of GB storage on the Ipad? Any recommendations are welcomed. Thanks

Justin,
I think a 2 will work just fine. The app can chew up a bit of data as you can download all the FAA manuals and charts and what not. But I think even a 16gb one will work so long as it's not already packed full of music or movies. :)

I'm using a 32gb iPad 3 and it's just great. I really love figuring out my flight plan on it, as you can click on VOR's or airports and set them as waypoints and it calculates things for you, and it's super quick and easy. (It builds the route list for you for your flight plan.)

The only downside is that it costs $75 after a 2 week trial. But for the convenience, I personally think it's worth dropping the money on it.

Good news for WingX Pro users. They have submitted to Apple their recent update which will include MS FSX support for the FSXFlight app. WooHoo.

I have the app working on my iPad1. I have the 64GB version, which isn't required.

FSXFlight appears to be able to leverage traffic support as well -- anybody reached out to them for a 'pilot-edge' discount? ;)

FSXFlight is up to 20.00... I'd be happy to buy if it were still 5.00
