Routes

Post by JustinWheat »

Ok need some advice. I flew a ifr flight today from klax to klas. I put the typical route the airliners use Loop4 Dag Kepec3. The controller gave me a full route SLI5 SLI V8 PDZ V442 APLES V364 DAG CLARR2 instead. My question is where can I obtain a route like this? Is there a typical flight planner yall use for pilotedge just for the socal area? Thanks.

Justin,

For starters, the LOOP6 is now current out of LAX. As for the rest of your question, there's not always a very good way to find preferred routes- especially for fairly unrealistic flights such as a C182 out of LAX. You might see that once every few months RW at best I'd imagine. Flightaware can be very helpful for common flights with proper type aircraft, but in a situation like this it's important to know that small props headed southwest counter-clockwise through northeast are always going to be given the SLI5 out of LAX in west ops. The LOOP6, while nothing specifically says it's only for M and J class aircraft, is a departure in which we need aircraft to climb rather quickly otherwise it can really disrupt the flow of traffic in LA departure airspace. So, next time you're doing a flight like this, start with the SLI5 that will take you to SLI and then use a website (or actual charts) such as skyvector.com to get from SLI to DAG. I'd also suggest the CRESO3 arrival into Las Vegas. I understand you were issued the CLARR2, but the CRESO3 is for the props.

Yeah, I was the controller for this one. My bad on the CLARR... I was quite busy up to that point and it was an oversight.

The reason you were not given the LOOP was because of the MEA requirements. I asked you if you could accept 15k to meet them, to which you said you were unable. At that point, I just started building a route for you.
