Cool shot!

The opening of SFO makes me want to reconsider learning IFR...

I was thinking IFR was the only realistic way to fly in or out of a big class b airport like SFO - would VFR be welcome there in the real world?

I've been VFR at JFK, PHL & DFW on r/w flights, has never been a problem.

Having said that, anything which gets a pilot moving towards an IFR rating is a good thing!

The only thing that can trip you up under VFR might be some last minute local references. You don't have to deal with those under IFR.

I see. Well then, I guess I'll echo the thread title: SFO here I come!

IFR looks like so much fun but I've been unsure about doing it in the sim before getting my r/w PPL. That seems to be taking longer than expected so I guess I might as well go for it and start the IFR training program here.

In my opinion, IFR is much easier to fly than VFR. With VFR you have to be much more aware of your airspace. I enjoyed going through the I-ratings and I'm sure you will, too. A lot to learn, but in the end it is quite rewarding.
