The pilot in this scenario is the wife of a Citation CJ3 owner/operator. She was attending a Pinch Hitter course at ProFlight and had completed some basic ground school and 2 simulator rides to practice landings, and that's about it. She had no experience with the enroute and approach phases of flight.
We'd been briefed that they were coming, and that due to sim limitations, the only suitable diversion field was LAX (wouldn't have been our first choice, of course). We managed to get a professional Citation pilot, one of the instructors at ProFlight, on the phone to help out with the some of the specifics of setting up the autopilot, suggested power settings, etc.
It was an intense experience for everyone with an interesting outcome.
