What: FAA Instrument Procedures Handbook

Cost: Free

Link: http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies ... _handbook/

Summary:

*This* is why I pay taxes (besides the providing for the common defense, promoting general welfare and ensuring the blessings of liberty). This is a great handbook and not a manual, giving you most everything you'd need for IFR planning like how to read charts and file flight plans.

There is also the Instrument Flying Handbook, and every other training manual. The FAR/AIM is also available.

The AIM, Instrument Flying Handbook and Instrument Procedures Handbook are 3 of the most under read and undervalued resources out there for training during the instrument rating.
