Western expansion expanding again?

I saw a Pilotedge Facebook post earlier today which suggested from Keith that the western expansion is going to include full coverage outside of the primary airports permanently? I can't seem to find that post again but surprised nothing has been posted on the main site?

Can someone clarify please?

Thanks
Sid

Maybe it's the hidden Gem :-)

Read about it here

I have to agree, I am a bit puzzled by the "hidden gem" section of the website and this facebook post from earlier today.

IE: The "Hidden Gem" feature of the Western US Expansion just got upgraded to Diamond status! You can now pick up IFR clearances at the start of your flight and approach clearances at your destination. This means you can do end to end VFR/IFR flights between 2500+ airports in the Western US Expansion.

See the Hidden Gem section here for more info: http://pilotedge.net/pages/western-expansion

This message seems to contradict itself from what is posted on the website? So will DEL, GND, TWR now be simulated at all airports within the entire expansion?

I guess they mean you can fly from anywhere there but treated as a non towers airport if it's not a primary or an active bonus field.

So do you think they mean you would treat it as a non-towered still but able to call for clearances from the ground?

Yep. But it may be you must contact center for ifr clearance. Depends on where you have. Then hold for release and do the ctaf calls and fly the departure and fly the flight :-) but I guess they don't give you any sid or star at non towered airport.

Sid, an update was posted on the main site (the Western US Expansion page: http://pilotedge.net/pages/western-expansion). The facebook post you referenced did include a link to that page.

Specifically, the "Hidden Gem" section was re-written to incorporate the new functionality. Please read the Hidden Gem section of the page carefully, then post any questions here.

What has changed between now and the previously posted definition of Hidden Gem is that controllers will now provide IFR service end to end (where radio coverage to the ground exists). This is a change from the first iteration where they would terminate radar service at top of descent or FL180 (whichever was lower).

Keith, I am curious. So I could very well shoot an approach into say "KCIC" then established get sent to ctaf, correct?

I'll post a thorough list of sample Hidden Gem flights in on that page with thorough explanations. Will advise when it's done.
