We haven't finalized the field list for Europe. We already know that everyone is going to want their country represented....it's a repeated pattern.

Hi Keith

I'm definitely biased but the UK must be top of the list. A relatively small country with lots of major airports, plus smaller ones. This would make a great place to operate in I would guess from an ATC point of view. Tubeliner flights from Scotland to London would be 2 hours max, lots of opportunity for short GA flights from north England/south England/Wales/Scotland. Very picturesque scenery from the rolling hills of Devon to the Welsh and Scottish mountains.

I'm getting too excited just thinking about it. :)

Keep up the great work.

Cheers
Sid

The trouble with Europe, and the UK is particularly awkward, is that ATC procedures are just not quite the same as in the USA. It would need a lot of training, unless you employ Brits. in Europe, or expatriate old pilots :-)
Yes, the language is the same, and much of the "patter" is identical, but there are a lot of differences in airspace, services offered, units and so on. I know Keith is a past VATSIM expert, but you have to listen to some of those VATSIM controllers to get an idea of what's going on - and that's just the UK. The French also have their own way of doing things.... You cannot listen to UK ATC on LIVEATC, because the UK requires one to have a licence for that.
Another thing, which might surprise some, is that UK controllers are usually much less informal than in America. They can be very friendly, but the UK demands precise RT procedures. A bit anal, but the ATC is respected worldwide as being of a very high calibre.
To get an idea, Google CAP413, and download the RT manual from the UK CAA.

I didn't say we were planning on hiring US people to work Europe.

It's really too early to be talking about this in detail, we can't say much about our plans yet. I just felt obliged to respond and say it was in the works because so many constantly ask us if we're going to open Europe.

No, I thought that wouldn't make a lot of sense - never mind the time difference, which is, in itself, not ideal :)

And just to complete the immersive experience on an eventual European implementation, be sure to add an automatic surcharge for each ATC interaction so that everyone experiences the full impact of ATC user fees!!!

And at this rate, who knows if that will start in the U.S. as well...
