CAT 4 rating - leaving class D
CAT 4 rating - leaving class D
So I completed the rating. I am wanting to better understand USA ATC. Quick question - when you leave the class D of SAN luis on your way to Santa Maria - the PE notes page just says you can change frequences. In the UK we would report leaving the zone to the controller (or the controller might say "freecall enroute" etc)- can you confirm that in the USA you dont have to do that. Many thanks for a great service.

Re: CAT 4 rating - leaving class D
That’s correct. When departing a class D airspace in the USA, once you are outside of the airspace, you may change frequencies. No need to report clear of the airspace or be told to change.
To add to that, you may request an “early frequency change” if you are in a hurry to talk to another controller and the tower will approve that, traffic permitting.
