Flew my first flight from KSAN to KLAS all went well but I was unable to hear other aircraft...I just heard the controllers. I could hear them talking to other aircraft but I could not hear them, so I was unable to verify if the freq was clear before I transmitted. I checked the posts but didnt see any posts for my question. Any suggestions?

We used to have a detailed FAQ which answered this one, I'll see what I can do about restoring that information.
If pilots are not on the same frequency as you, you will not hear them, just like real life. Our controllers handle multiple frequencies and sectors, just like many controllers do in real life.
Try not to worry too much about what's going on with the other frequencies. Make your calls. ATC can handle it 95% of the time. If they need you to repeat, they'll let you know.
