I do not hear other pilots

Post by ianbennett »

Hi,

When in PE, I have perfect communication with towers but cannot hear other pilots, is this normal?

Thanks

Yes, this is normal. The only time you will hear both sides of the conversation, pilot and controller, is when you are all on the same frequency. It happens usually when there are two pilots on approach to the same airport. You'll definitely hear both the other pilot and the controller in that scenario.

Here's a video from a real world flight where I can only hear the center controller, but none of the other pilots that she's talking to:

Other online networks have controllers working a single frequency, where pilots tune ONLY into those frequencies. Consequently, you hear a lot of pilots, speaking to a controller serving many different roles (delivery, ground, tower, approach).

The radio on PilotEdge works much like the real thing. You only hear pilots if they're on your frequency and if they're relatively near by.
