Re: My first FSE Aircraft N533ET

Yeah I was just thinking the reason why he lost the signal.

IIRC there's not much in the PPL training about that sort of thing. They make a bigger point of it in the IFR material, of course. If it had been a real world flight, that could get a bit hairy for a new'ish PPL who had no/little knowledge ...

Re: My first FSE Aircraft N533ET

I lost the VOR about 20 miles north of the airport and tried to dead reckon the rest of the way. Lost again, I pulled the chart and found the Camp Guernsey NDB, got the correct bearing off of it, then found I-25 and flew low and slow until I stumbled across it.

Re: Newb questions: freq overlap; COM1 & COM2; MTR/MOAs.

But I do very much want to practice engine-failure. I remember one of my private-pilot friends describing how his instructor reached over and turned off his engine mid-flight, 5 miles away from New Haven airport. Brr!

Re: Mini Route frequency change...

That makes a lot of sense.

1) If the controller doesn't give you any restrictions when flying VFR, you don't have any. You can do whatever you like. If something you do conflicts with someone else, he will call you back and give you restrictions. In your linked example he just said "clear to ...

Re: Mini Route frequency change...

Thanks guys. Those all make a lot of sense.

So here is the clip I've been analysing. It's the Mark Hargrove V-3 demo.

After the mini route he's cleared to transition the Hawthorn Delta. Is he crossing out of the delta before his call to Torrance? It's hard to ...

Re: Newb questions: freq overlap; COM1 & COM2; MTR/MOAs.

Oh cool, I didn't even know about the online map. That'll clear things up. Thanks!

So Keith, if I'm inbound to KIZA from the north, should I call Socal approach (because KIZA is close to the KSBA Charlie) or Santa Maria tower (to transition its delta)? I'm guessing Socal approach, but I'm not sure ...

Generally no, we don't keep old approaches to reference.
Ok that answers my questions, thanks for the reply.

Re: Heya, first flight

If flying in the real world would you expect the ATC controller to know what's the difference between your GPS version and the current? It seems to me that the pilot is responsible for determine what the correct plate looks like. It's not that hard to review the up to date charts using Skyvector ...

Re: Newb questions: freq overlap; COM1 & COM2; MTR/MOAs.

Hey all, I'm having a blast on PE, and I'm learning to relax a bit more. I think I need to spend more time just monitoring tower frequencies to get used to the pace of speech. In the meantime, I have more newbish questions; I hope this is the right place for them.

1. I was checking the ATIS at San ...

Re: Heya, first flight

Yeah but what are the controllers going to assume if I file /G, that I have current plates and can fly a current GPS approach? Or should I not file /G if I don't because I have the default X-Plane plates?

In the real world you are correct that /G means approach capable.

Here on PE we know that ...
