Re: Never again on PE - share your mistakes

Yesterday I did a very embarrassing mistake. It's surprising how much you forget if you don't connect to PE regularly.

I asked the ground controller for a VFR clearance. "Say aircraft type and equipment" ... what? I had filed a flight plan ... FACEPALM! In USA the controllers don't get VFR flight ...

Re: V35 X-Plane Yaws Sitting on Ruwnay

25kt crosswind can move a fully loaded Carenado Cessna 208 sideways even with park brake on. LES DC-3 does not move on gravel runway even if you have full throttle. Taxiing a taildragger with a 15kt crosswind is nearly impossible... The ground friction in X-Plane is nothing to brag about.

I've ...

Re: An Observation: Big learning curve between I4 and I5

Yes, but make sure to choose US one. Couple of months ago I connected as "Cargolux" ("lux" = "daylight" or "life" in Latin). Cool callsign I thought.

When controller called me "charlie-lima-xray [number]" and asked me what my callsign was, I realized that this airline isn't that well known across ...

Re: Weather sync with PE controllers?

Yes, it is possible. You can also set your sim weather to CAVOK and ask for visual approach (if you tell the controller that you have VMC in the sim) and you'll get it.

Re: An Observation: Big learning curve between I4 and I5

I've done it in SF34 cruising 230KTAS, it took 1hr 15min gate-to-gate (well, it was a cargo plane, so maybe ramp-to-ramp :) ). No big deal.

The JS32 or Carenado King Airs would be probably as fast (C90 is as fast - 220-240 true max, the B200 can do 270-280). For all of the mentioned aircraft you ...

Re: XP Garmin RNAV SiDS & STARS

Real world Garmin can. The X-Plane one is somewhat limited. It supports only instrument approaches (incl. LPV ... nice! :) ), however it doesn't support SIDs and STARs.

A typical workaround is including the SIDs and STARs into flight plan (can't be done when flying online) or using some universal ...

Re: IFR Aircraft Advice

And I'd suggest getting an aircraft with steam-punk gauges. They're easier to read and simpler to operate in simulator where you have quite a small computer screen in front of you. However real world this advice is probably not true.

Re: JAR A320 Waypoints

The recent beta is better, however not perfect. I always "back it up" by iFMC which handles this better, can provide a guidance during a go around and usually doesn't screw up approach procedures. Although I understand that modelling a FMGS takes really a lot of time and effort, they could do it ...

Recently I've flown in BE35 (fork-tail Beech Bonanza), controller called me "Baron ...". The question is - does it really matters that much?

Re: Looking for an RNAV/FMS Jet Aircraft

I'll add my €0.018 :-)

I'd add +1 for the 757. However it's not the easiest aircraft to fly . But if you want an aircraft with complete FMS and very well simulated systems, then this one comes very close. My favourite tube-liner for X-Plane. However it's the 1980s version so it doesn't have a GPS ...
