When do we need to request an approach?
I'm trying to understand the rules about when a pilot should request an IFR approach or not. In i-02, the atc provide the clearance for the approach. But in a flight made yesterday from Needles to Bullhead in IFR, the atc mentionned to me that I was supposed to request the desired approach.

Re: Carenado Cessna 337H "Skymaster"
Agree that the Skymaster is a very nice addition to hangar.
I also purchased it during Christmas sale and it became rapidly my favorite one for IFR as it id fully eqiped with double VOR, DME, NDB, GPS so you can pretty much use it for any approaches. You can also slow it down easily if you need to ...

Hi Keith and Ryan,
Keith, my first message was my own interpretation of the explanation given verbally by Ryan. His writen clarification here made it clear that he was really not expecting me to turn right at Silex. My error here not understanding exactly what he was explaining.

Re: Question on I-3 right turn at Silex
Hi Ryan,
Now I'm really confused. Arriving at SITEX from SMO on a 311 heading and with a right turn hold, I think that the normal entry is parallel as a teardrop will require going from 311 to about 226 (256-30) which is 85 degree left, still possible but a parallel entry seems more natural.

Re: Question on I-3 right turn at Silex
No, the hold must be flown; if he was on vectors, he does not. His last filed fix was SILEX and was cleared directly from that.
Hi Ryan,
Yes, I remember than when asked if I wanted vectors or Silex, I have chosen Silex.
But, from your answer it seems that flying hte hold in lieu of procedure ...

Question on I-3 right turn at Silex
Hi,
I did make the I-3 rating flight yesterday and I have a question.
When I was approaching Silex from SMO, my GPS (Reality XP) did call for a parallel entry to the hold in order to make the turn toward the final course. I thought that this was because the angle between the incoming SMO radial ...

Re: What are the good fsx sceneries in PilotEdge areaq
I agree that track-ir is great for having a quick look at the virtual cockpit and even more to keep situation awareness with the runway while downwind.
In fsx, i also use ezca which allows to create specific views for radios, taxis, fuel valves, view for taxi etc...
This is a very good combination ...
