Task-Saturated Penguin FBO network, changed hub to 46CA
Re: Task-Saturated Penguin FBO network, changed hub to 46CA
Ah! That second approach in your video makes me feel better about what I was doing, including the hair cut you gave the wind sock
An hour of practice and I was able to keep it on the centerline once turned on to final.

I wouldn't worry about a 'safe distance' from the hill. You can legally come as close as you want to it if the operation is necessary for takeoff or landing. Maintain visual with the hill and don't hit it, that's about all you need to worry about with regards to that. There are some crazy approaches in south america that require similar actions, and they land 757's there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_z5HtME9n8

Tried my own version. Worked like a charm. YouTube LinkKeith Smith wrote:Otherwise, you can arrive using a modified straight in (basically the reverse of the departure path). I'm uploading a YT vid of my first attempts now: http://youtu.be/nuLvbHRjBcI

OMG... It's soooo easy.... I should have done it that way in the C206!ChrisS wrote:Tried my own version. Worked like a charm. So now I'm hooked into FSEconomy. <sarcsam> Thanks! </sarcasm>
I've made a few flights, but I'd like to jump into the FBO and fly some of the routes. That said, should I deadhead a plane to the hub and then fly it around, or can I grab one of the planes there that are privately owned?

I decided to try out FSE in P3D last night and figured I would check out the fun over at 46CA in the process. I think I'm OK with the mandatory approach to 10, but Keith, you may want consider sponsoring a runway widening project at some point. One thing is sure, fly in and out of here enough and missing the center line at any major airport will be inexcusable
...and the Torrey Pines glider port makes for some great short-field practice.
Oh, and no complaints, by the way. This is an awesome change up from what I would normally fly on PE. And as if PE by itself wasn't enough, thanks to everyone involved here adding yet another reason to love this place.

My Cessna Skyhawk (N841LR) is based at 46CA. You can use her anytime!stevekirks wrote: That said, should I deadhead a plane to the hub and then fly it around, or can I grab one of the planes there that are privately owned?

You can use any plane that is available for rentals. Whether it's privately owned or system owned doesn't really matter. If the private owner didn't want ppl using it, he/she would not make it available for renting.
There are creative ways to bring planes to the field. Last night I liberated a MU-2 from SBD, taking a bunch of jobs into nearby Borrego Valley (L08). After dropping them off and collecting my money, I dead headed a few miles to 46CA, and now the plane sits, ready for use. If you do that, all you need to do is "rent dry" (or rent wet, obviously), then start your flight in the sim. You'll have no jobs, but it still works. Then, end your flight as normal in FSE at the destination, and viola...you've moved the plane. You will be paying for that rental, though. In my case, it was about a 5 minute flight.

And yes, FSE is definitely addictive. The persistent nature of all the objects in the system (fuel, planes, jobs, FBO's, supplies, bulk fuel, etc, etc) makes for a very engaging experience. Combine it with PE and it's a whole new ballgame!
