The £1000 one is better in than 1st apart from GPU. The 1st PC's GPU has 4g of ram and 2nd PC's GPU has 2g. Is the 2nd good, and will it still be able to run x-plane at high settings? :)

BTW, any chance you can change that cpu to a 4790K?

The K series allows for simple overclocking should you want to. The 4790K OCs pretty well with a decent cooler... as XP10 can be quite demanding it may be something to consider.
I'm curious...how substantial were your gains from OC? Also what do you have it OC to? I ask because I also have the 4790k but haven't bothered trying to OC yet. With it running at 4.0Ghz stock, I found my performance to be quite nice. I am running FSX as opposed to X-plane though.
I don't have the 4790K... I still have my 2500K @ 4Ghz.

If you're over at avsim you can ask there but I'd reasonably confident that stock to say 4.7Ghz would be a large gain. The 4790K is really powerful for FSX.
Sorry my mistake, i'll have to look into experimenting with OCing. I have an a aftermarket cpu cooler so I might as well put it to use and see about getting a performance boost :)

I think that 2g of vram is OK for one monitor, 1920x1080.
All my friends say that 2g is fine for 1 monitor. One of my friends has a gtx 660 ti 2g vram and a 24inch monitor 1080p and says that it is fine. :D

X-Plane will use the entirety of 2GB VRAM if you let it. I just upgraded to a 4GB card, and it using 3.5GB regularly on a 1080p monitor. You certainly can run X-Plane just fine with 2GB, but it will happily use more than that.

It seems to be the most vram-hungry "game" ever made then

Well as long as an i7 4970k 4.4ghz, 16g of ram, and an nvidia gtx 960 2g vram will be able to run x-plane 10 at high settings with at least 30fps, I will be happy :D

This pc to be precise:

It really depends on what you mean by "High" settings. You will not be able to set everything to maximum and expect X-Plane to run decently. As far as I'm aware there is not yet consumer level hardware that will run X-Plane with all settings maximum.

You will be able to get it looking good and running well, but you'll have to tweak settings.

VRAM is a very important part of the architecture. Get as much as you can afford. At this point, I would consider 4GB to the minimum to aim for.

That thing is screaming for a GTX 970.... 2GB vram is a major choke point on that 960.... It's a powerful high end CPU with crappy mid range video card, not to mention crappy HDD... there should be a SSD for that thing. That's really common with combo PC's or PC's you can buy as one.... one component is great and the rest is just "meh"

I also question the "high grade 600w" psu - which one is it?

I suppose that at some point I could upgrade the GPU. Do you all play it on one monitor 1080p? i can always turn down the resolution so that less vram is being used. Matt Davies (YouTube) plays x-plane at high settings with a gtx 780 3g of vram, but I don't know. :)
