Frequency isolation logic is going to change

Thanks for the additional clarification Keith, I didn't mean an ounce of dissatisfaction and I'm sorry if I came across that way! I suppose I both over complicated the changes being made to frequency isolation and at the same time over simplified the way the system scales and works in my proposal for a solution. I briefly spoke to Pete on the twitch stream last night on the subject and you know I hadn't even considered combined clearance/ground or the code side being big work. Anyway I appreciate the service and would still use it if you simulated babies crying and long delays lol

I enjoyed and benefited from the additional traffic. I learn from others mistake\example as much as I learn from my own, so hearing all the other radio chatter is a benefit. I never could get the listener to work on my Mac.

Things aren't working like I expected.... I'm still hearing pilots step all over each other. Is it possible that on certain platforms (sims/OSes) people aren't hearing each other?

For instance in Win7 / XP10 I'm hearing everyone step on each other.

Ryan, if there's a true silence, then a bunch of people who are waiting to call might still step on eachother, that's just like the real world. What's changed is that while you're on a ground frequency, you can now hear if there are transmissions taking place on other freqs/positions, which will greatly reduce the number of cases where someone starts a transmission when someone else is 5 seconds into a clearance read back.

This isn't a platform specific issue, it was purely a server side change.

I have win7 and xplane 10 and it works fine on mine. I notice that if one pilot starts talking when another talks they will stop talking and let the other guy go. I have noticed a huge improvement though. Being able to hear the other pilots voices help with the immersion too. Its nice to hear more than just the controller!!!

What I'm hearing is different. A person is talking... and then two more start talking (like 3 seconds into first person's transmission)... like they're unaware of someone else talking.

Ryan, that's....odd. Let me know the details via PM of date/time/callsigns and I'll try to find out what was going on. There aren't any bugs in the new code afaik, but if someone people are still being isolated, then I really need to know.

I've been wondering about this. I have only been with PE for a week now and in all the videos I see half conversations taking place due to frequency isolation. I haven't seen that myself though since I started. This explains why.

One huge benefit for me as a newbie has been being able to sit on the ground and listen to the channel as a learning tool while I work up the nerve to file my flight. I've been loving this.

I did accidentally step on the controller a couple times since I started though where I don't remember it happening. Only on the archive did I figure out what happened. I'm wondering if there could be a bug where I wasn't hearing ATC?

I think it's a good change - although when I joined PE, I was confused a bit, and suspected the problems with my configuration.

However the big advantages for me are being able to listen to a lot of traffic - this trains the ear, and speeds up the training a lot.

Keith - I strongly suggest you put a very clear explanation on your website, somewhere in the section about setting things up. This will prevent the same questions I was raising when new people join PE.

Just to add my 2 cents, loving PE so far.
