Yesterday, a Sabreliner and a C172 collided near KSDM.

Most mid-air collisions occur in day VFR conditions on beautiful days like yesterday in San Diego. It's too early to know many details of the accident, but a reminder to keep your head on a swivel.
The importance of scanning for aircraft.

Re: The importance of scanning for aircraft.
I was reading some more about this mid-air this morning. One of the pilots had his certificate revoked from the FAA 3 times in the last several years. Terrible tragedy for all involved.

Wow just full of great aeronautical decision making. Can't imagine where to start on this accident chain.

Ugh this makes me sick to my stomach... I've seen one fatal as a controller so far (thankfully did not actually see the crash but issued a safety alert when the target dropped altitude) and hope to not see one again.
I can't imagine the thoughts of the controller (I'm not saying he/she was at fault or anything) and I'm very sad for the families of the persons lost in this tragedy.
As I understand it, the C172 pilot had some serious legal issues with regards to operation of his aircraft.

Ugh wow, sorry to hear this happened to you. Just could not imagine being a controller and all you can do is tell them without being able to do anything else. I simply cannot image.
Certainly, prayers for the families. Just terrible no matter the circumstances.
And thanks for what you do to keep us all safe and from running into each other out there. It is a job I am fairly sure I do not have the coordination to do.

Ya we put out our very best. But I think someone above mentioned it above, even in a controlled environment the PIC is responsible for operation of the aircraft... Hopefully we'll know more details soon.
