Vacaville, Madera, Manteca, even Sacramento for that matter get the Gringo treatment when pronounced. Modesto on the other hand pretty much the same but not much difference in how it would be pronounced anyway.

I've had my eye on the Watsonville VOR/DME-A for awhile (that Zane mentions at the top of this thread)...and got a chance to fly it this afternoon. Had to figure out a practical way to get to it, and ended up departing out of E16. The winds aloft were a little heftier than what was being reported, so that added to the experience.

The "convex DME arc," as I'll call it, is just plain fun. There's the nagging knowledge that it's too easy to turn 90 degrees the wrong way, so that becomes enough of a mild distraction to need to remind yourself to keep a good scan up. Then there are the drones flying in and out of KWVI, and they don't cut you any slack when you want to land on another runway (oh, and don't forget the "Circling NA west of Rwf 2-20").

Great fun! :D
