Steve: Thanks for the extra scenery pack, I'll install it tonight when I get home. Coolness.
Since some systems had trouble with the big bulk-scenery files I had created, I have started creating individual airports for download. I just uploaded 4 new airports for your flying pleasure:
Newest Airports added for individual download:
Kelso Valley: This is a po-dunk airport in the middle of nowhere, but really good for practicing your old-school VFR pilotage. Be sure to do a flyover to check for cattle on the runway
http://www.xplanes-scenery.com/kelso%20 ... 0ranch.zip
Kern Valley: This is like Bob's airport. Middle o' nowhere. Tricky to find though, it is totally off the main airways.
http://www.xplanes-scenery.com/kern%20valley.zip
Mojave Spaceport: This is home of Burt Rutan's legendary Scaled Composites. It is also home to one of the few Test pilot academies in the world. A degree from this university will cost you a mere $970,000 (not counting the prerequisite Bachelors degree in engineering or math.)
http://www.xplanes-scenery.com/kern%20valley.zip
Sacramento-Mathis: This is a must-have airport. If you compare the airport charts to the map in Xplane you will see that they completely forgot the entire north tarmac, a buncha taxiways, the main terminal, all of the military helicopter landing pads, and the entire Mathis Airforce base.

Re: Free Scenery for PilotEdge users
Adam, the links on the last two point to Kern Valley. Also, it's Mather, not Mathis.
Thanks for posting them. fwiw, they didn't forget to include the taxiways, none of the airports have accurate taxiways to begin with, they are computer generated, initially. It is only if someone comes along and builds it that they become accurate. So, not forgotten, just never built.

Verrry odd. The link on the page shows up correctly, the proper file downloads when you click on it, but when you copy the link it will always copy the Kern or Kelso valley links. Prolly something caused by the sharepoint editor. The actual file for Mather is correctly named, I just typed Mathis because I was speed-posting the thing in the middle of a meeting. A minor consequence of multi-tasking.
Here is Sacramento Mather:

Enjoy the new scenery. You do need to have the OpenSceneryX download for these to work:

Re: Free Scenery for PilotEdge users
I have finished splitting up the scenery packs into bite sized packages. I did this because I found that some systems simply would not handle the en-masse scenery packs properly. I have also added a few new airports so there is a total of 33 airports available free on www.xplanes-scenery.com. The site also points to another dozen or so airports available through x-plane.org.
On the next round I will be adding more signage to the maps. I have just not had time to create the custom objects for the taxiway signs. But we really do need those since taxiing at night in Xplane is a real PITA.
I encourage all of you to sample the maps. My primary purpose of airpoirt scenery is not for the eye-candy, but because in a R/W flight you don't just turn off the runway onto the first taxiway and shut down the simulation. When you fly, you are flying from a specific place (Bob's flight center) to a specific place (fuel center at KXYZ.) If you are one of those lucky enough to be able to afford not only the airplane, but the hanger to park it in, then you will likely have to negotiate the alleyways between the T-hangars. At minimum you will need to know where to park on the GA or transient ramp.
Enjoy the scenery. I will be focusing on Socal and updating the signage for the next few months.

Re: Free Scenery for PilotEdge users
I certainly enjoy your scenery. I could care less about the stuff that goes on in between airports because I am engrossed in the flying at those points. But when departing or arriving, I think it's very nice to have a realistic view out the windscreen. A completely featureless, signless stock airport is a bit of a downer and certainly detracts from an otherwise immersive experience. So, thank you!Daddy O wrote:I have finished splitting up the scenery packs into bite sized packages. My only request: bundle all your zips into one mega-zip for ease of downloading. I'm about to go right click 33 times to get all these, and it'd be much nicer to click once. (I know, you just got done splitting them up.

Well done.

Re: Free Scenery for PilotEdge users
I just added KMOD Modesto California to the scenery packs. This airport includes accurate signage, the corrected taxiways, and missing tarmac. What is really cool is that you can spawn inside of several of the hangers, or out in the GA parking lot. Also notable is that I added the trees off the east side of the airport, and the housing divisions to the west. I also made all the signs as big as possible for maximum visibility.
I should be done with KCIC soon. Some of you remember that airport as being one that was missing the entire tarmac, and had messed up taxiways so you wound up parking in the grass. I use the airport chart as an overlay to map the base file in WED, and google maps to finish the scenery accurately. The finished KCIC should include everything you need to taxi in the middle of the night.

Wow. Thanks a lot for these. You've put a lot of time and effort into these and I really appreciate it.
Re: Free Scenery for PilotEdge users
I just added KCIC Chico. The scenery pack includes corrected taxiways, addition of the north tarmac and facilities, easy to read signage and marking, and the ability to spawn inside of several of the hangars in GA parking.
Eugene alspo contributed corrected apt.dat files for 3 new airports (Henderson executive, Palm Springs, and Chino Valley.). These include accurate taxiways and signage. I will add scenery to these pdq.
Also, Eugene provided an updated apt.dat file for Fullerton. If you previously downloaded this airport you may want to update so it better matches the charts.
Njoy

Re: Free Scenery for PilotEdge users
After a whole lotta work, I have finally finished skinning KPSP Palm Springs. Eugene did a really outstanding job on the apt.dat file and corrected taxiways, signage, and taxi lines. The work was really first rate.
The newly skinned airport features custom spawn points including specific terminal gates, the Palm Springs Air Museum, and even the maint yard. Additionally, the terminal gates are accurately marked so if you are flying a heavy, you can pull into a specific gate instead of just parking at a random gate. The map also includes several accurate refueling locations.
Since we fly out of KPSP regularly, this would be a good airport to download.
