That's a good point about the possibility regarding disorientation.
Toosox, if you'd like some end to end examples of IFR flights, giving you an idea about what to consider during each phase of flight, how to setup the avionics, etc...here a video of an IFR flight from BFL to MYF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVb6S_3qnzc (suggest full screen and high def to be able to see the gauges). The MARIC3 SID is attached for your convenience.
There's also the newly added video for the I-2 rating (the I-1 video is a bit dark, I suspect). The IFR rating cockpit videos will be done in sequence soon.
