All the difference if you can't reach a plane If you know that he at least left the frequency, then if you can't reach him again, at least you know that he's somewhere in transit. If he simply leaves the frequency, without acknowledging, then you have no idea if he even got the instruction.

btw this topic isn't about frequency changes for different sectors it's about freq changes to a different transmitter.

Once you switch, you should say "N8383T on 123.45". If you don't tell us what frequency you are on and we asked you to change to another frequency that we are monitoring, how would we know if you made the switch?

If you're looking at the comm panel (in reality), you could tell what frequency a pilot is on by the RX light on the panel with the corresponding frequencies you are actively receiving... In theory the controller could find out through this method, but it would detract from scanning the scope, thereby creating a potential safety issue... better to state the new frequency you're on anyways for efficiency/safety as a pilot.
