I also use SimAVIO products and think they add a tremendous amount of realism. First of all, I am a r/w pilot who recently got back into flying after a long hiatus. Secondly, I just started instrument training and hope to complete my rating in a couple of months. I normally fly my buddy’s Piper Lance II but out of convenience will be doing my instrument training and checkride in a C172S NAVIII (G1000). After some research, I purchased X-plane and SimAVIO's G1000 specifically to supplement my real world instrument training. Thus, I am new to the x-plane/sim world. I use a 23" touchscreen monitor to simulate the G1000. I run the x-plane outside display on a separate monitor. In fact, I actually run SimAVIO on a separate computer. SimAVIO's G1000 operates very close to the real thing with a couple of fairly minor exceptions. Feel free to email if you have any other questions about my dealings with SimAVIO. So far, their product and support are exactly what I was looking for to supplement my real world training.

The big fat bonus in all this was finding pilotedge! Dealing with ATC is a HUGE part of IFR flying (and VFR if you live in the big city like me). Keith’s product is superb! After listening to the recording of his radio interview, I hope to have similar results in getting my instrument rating with a high level of proficiency in a low amount of flight time.

I use SimAVIO as well.. I do like it, just beware the hidden costs. It was a lot more expensive than I thought it was going to be when first looking at it.

I still haven't brought myself to pay for the GPS DB updates as I just can't bring myself to do it for that much cash.

Otherwise though, it works great, I love having all my instruments on two separate monitors. I mapped all the buttons to external controllers so I don't have to touch the mouse, all and all it works smoothly.

As mentioned previously if not using their planes (which have no cockpit graphics, etc.) you will need to modify planes to get them to work. The standard X-Plane C172 works fine with the Cessna panels, but some of the data will be wrong unless you edit it. (For example I think the white "flaps" arc on the speed indicator for SimAVIO is like 100kts (as I remember.), the actual flaps arc for the default X-Plane C172 is 85kts I believe. So you have to be careful not to use the white arc or you'll overspeed your flaps.

Hey guys, that's great news to hear that y'all are enjoying their products. I bought the simavio2 thing that's required to run the panels so far. Haven't purchased any panels yet though. Reason being the license key. It says I have 7 days to email support the serial number so I can in return recieve the license activation key. Well I've emailed them and haven't heard a response. It's been over 48 hours. Is this usual for them on their response time?? This is what's holding me up so far. I guess I am a little inpatient??

I got my key back within 24 hours as I recall, and I purchased it maybe 2 months ago?

I would send them a follow up e-mail and ask for status.

Hi Guys,

The software works fine without the license for 5 days. You should be able to everything as normal. I actually loaded it on a couple computers to decide which machine to use. However, the license is machine specific, so it no longer works on my second computer. You can get the panel you want, set it up, and use it while you're waiting for the licence. Response is usually a day or two.
