If you're looking to mirror real world flights, then if you step down to a CRJ, it'll open up a whole world of fields.

LOL...oh, I haven't stepped up to the 737 yet. Took it for a flight once and 'yeesh'...lot of stuff to do. Does anyone make a decent CRJ for FSX? Regional birds seem neglected over there. I do have the J41 but nobody (except one guy in Tennessee as far as I can tell) flies the J41.

I wouldn't sweat the fact that it isn't being operated much in the area. If you enjoy flying it, then fly it. I've heard good things about that J41 for FSX.

I got my CRJ200 off the org. Pretty good. Lotta work to stay ahead of it though.

The J41 is pretty comparable to the E120, so I fly SkyWest regional flights out of LAX and LAS on the J41. Lots of cool airports to visit.

You can download XP8 & 9 aircraft from x-plane.org, and use the tool in Builder to bring them up to current format. Sometimes you have to do a little work on the panel, but most aircraft convert to the new format. So you can really go shopping. I have planes in my livery from 8.5. The aerodynamic model of a CRJ200 doesn't change just because Xplanes did.

You should try the 777 speed bird. Thats a handful of plane and it really gets ahead of you quick. It will get you a speeding ticket if you try to fly it without autothrottle. Also available free on the org.

If you manage pitch and power accordingly, you can fly any airplane without auto-throttle.

Some planes will require modification between versions of X-Plane because the interpretation/definition of some of the numbers has changed in PlaneMaker, particularly when it comes to the capabilities of the engines.

Yep I fly the NGX quite often. One of the biggest reasons is because of it's current navdata (assuming one has navigraph or navdata pro subscription). The other reason is because it's fast, can use pretty short runways, and has incredible systems modeling and flight modeling. It's probably the best hand flyer in FSX big iron addons category.

Other larger planes, I fly the Lotus L39 (sporty little Czech jet has RXP430w in it too!), Flight1 Mustang, and I used to fly the ES C750 and PMDG JS41.

This is almost exactly what I do because of how difficult it is to use the partially functional default 430. Twisting in a 5-letter intersection via the mouse at an angle in the 3D cockpit with a little turbulence is nearly impossible. I'm very proficient with the 430 as I use it regularly in RW flying, but it's a no-go in X-Plane for me. I just file all GA planes as /I (same as /A but adds DME) and stick to VORs as primary nav which works great since you're usually flying airways anyway if you're IFR and flying a pre-approved route. I use the 430 just to verify position relative to fixes if I'm primarily navigating using dual VORs, and to check my groundspeed to see if I'm topping 200 kts in the Bonanza with a tailwind. :)

For FAA equipment codes /A is DME with Mode C Transponder. /I is an RNAV mode: LORAN, VOR/DME, or INS, transponder with Mode C. Not the same as /A.
