It works, but it's non-trivial to install. I'm working on the P3D installer as we speak. Same software gets installed, it's just that the installer needs to be made aware of the P3D folders and registry keys.
I'm proud to say I didn't pull a single all-nighter on this...
That said, I have been going till 2-3am most days for the past 3 weeks. Unfortunately, this release coincided with the delivery of another large project (the IFR Bootcamp venture with PilotWorkshops), so it's been...challenging. I haven't had time to even announce that project, but I will shortly, in the mean time, a trip to google will give you the basics.
On the dev side, while producing the Mac 64-bit build, I realized that this was going to be about the only time in the foreseeable future that I'd be able to make significant changes to the network protocol.
Since the xplane client can now take advantage of animations in visual models, it made sense to go all out and incorporate all the data required for a rich visual experience (these will be detailed soon). The first generation of the plugin was able to animate basic control surfaces but this new system takes it to another level with tire rotation speeds, gear strut compression, wing flex, individual prop rotation speeds (sounds ridiculous I know, but once you've seen a turboprop startup and shutdown, it's hard to go back). Between that and the fact that the objects cast shadows, have normal maps, are fully lit, etc....the visual experience in X-Plane is going to be world class. There will be some promotional material for that posted next week.
I know Mac 64-bit users were waiting for a very long time, I hope they'll enjoy the release. I had to exhaust all other possibilities in terms of bridging the 32-bit voice client with the 64-bit plugin, but in the end, the decision to pull the trigger on a system wide upgrade did end up allowing for a lot of functionality in the protocol which we otherwise wouldn't have been able to add.
I seem to have a hard time finding the download software for P3Dv2. Is it still under the download software Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004/FSX? I tried refreshing the page but still get the same links. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
It's the same installer for all 3 platforms. I'll update the text on that main page, though, I see what you mean. Follow the link and read the supported platform list, you'll see P3D is there.
