We did the same thing! That is, I was on final to VNY when Comms died... and I, too, panicked and flew my own version of the Missed, i.e. a right traffic go-around.... until....running out of gas.....

The scope video I had was missing all of my transmissions, so it took most of the evening the edit the first 1hr 10mins of footage, extracting my transmissions from the recordings and integrating them into the video. It's rendering now. It's a bit incomplete since it doesn't capture the controller to controller comms, or any of the narration that was going on during the course of the event.

I'll do my best to post an index of the interesting moments but for those who flew in the event, it should bring some clarity to what was happening with some of the sequencing in the Joshua and Pt Magu sectors :)

Should be able to post it tomorrow morning.

Captains and Keith,
After reviewing the video, I learned another lesson in speed technique esp. in descents. Keith I was challenged by the delaying vectors going to Janny but I am giving myself one At-a-boy for not flying off into space. Appreciate those curve balls to help keep me sharp. Being a crew of one is a challenge in itself while attempting RW procedures in sim situations while driving fast equipment. looking forward to more flights in the future. This is such a wonderful niche that you've formulated. Note to self, gotta stop using "Ahhhh".

One other thing that was totally spot on about this Fly-In/Out was the fact that it catered to everyone, from the single piston to the jet; and that is something that, sadly, most user fly-ins (including mine!) don't normally do.

And I'm 99.999341235% sure that PE management put a lot of thought into the announced "Departure Times" - working out how to get everyone into the San Fernando Valley (VNY/BUR area) at around the same time, be it in a Piper from SMX or a 747 from LAS. I loved that I was getting vectored towards VNY at the same time that Kim and his 747 was getting set up for the ILS rwy 8 into BUR... when he wasn't fighting his disconnection issues, that is . I think I actually saw him (or some other Heavy metal) out my left window at one point, one or two thousand feet below, and heading westbound on a nice long downwind. Pretty cool. Wish I had grabbed a photo now.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what the next event such as this one will be. Hey, how about [jets from SFO to LAX] ...departing at the same time as... [slower 'craft from PSP (or BFL?) into HHR]? Would be awesome flying slow and low into HHR to see all these big jets zooming by on final to LAX. Anyway, it's just a thought. I'm also 99.99737284% sure that Keith & co. have lots of good ideas for the next event too. ;)

Cyrus, the timing was no accident. It's a technique we've used before. You can thank Kevin Meyers for the pre-planning. We negotiated a little bit on the airports, but it's almost entirely his work. The operations side is handled by Peter Grey, he does what he can to ensure we have an appropriate number of controllers. And then, of course, we have the controllers who provide the service.

More events are definitely going to happen along these lines. This is a nice format, the feedback has been great. The controllers really enjoyed working it, too.

We might need to make them slightly shorter, though. Relatively few people did the follow-on flights. That said, it was pretty late by then. It would be interesting to see if a morning or early afternoon event could be this long and keep people around, or perhaps those that can't make the first leg can still make the second leg.

I'll start a separate thread about that one.

I have wonderful memories many many years ago of riding jump seat as often as I could wangle it into LAX after a long haul across the Pacific from Sydney, and seeing traffic everywhere criscrossing above and below us. It never ceased to amaze me how fast the closing velocities became. To PE's credit, I got that exact same feeling and adrenal rush during the Birthday Bash. The PE environment has a way of fooling the brain into thinking it is real. I just want to do it again soon :) Please. Pretty please!
