you can set up shared cockpit, but a youtube video is actually a better way, in my opinion, to see how the flight was conducted because you'll see them moving the mouse to adjust switches before the switch is actually adjusted in the cockpit. WIth shared cockpit, you might be looking out the window when the other pilot is pushing important buttons in the cockpit.

So, I'm sticking with my original answer :)

^^^^A large percentage of us on PilotEdge are here to learn the same thing (among other things). So in that regards you are in the right place.

IMO the best way to go about this still depends upon your priorities, goals and resources. Time and money are near the top of the list for many of us.

For example, if you are concerned about cost of the service, then one method would be to focus on how to get the most out of the trial.

If you are the cautious type and you want to "be sure" before you buy, then spending some time doing your homework is not unreasonable. The PE trial is designed to ensure that your sim set up is able to work with the PE network. It also allows you to "experience" how the network functions before committing your hard earned $$'s.

If cost is your #1 priority, then give Vatsim a try. There's still plenty to learn on Vatsim. In addition, when you do make the switch to PE, you will truly understand the difference.

If you are more of the "instant gratification" type, then jump in. The water's fine. :D I promise that no real pilots will be harmed. ;)

my advise would be, do not connect at peak hour for your first flight. Controllers and frequencies will be very busy, you will feel stressed and uncomfortable and afraid to continue the trial. there is nothing worst than loosing all of your confidence on the first attempt.

watch the introductory video several times L52 to San Luis Obispo, have the transcript aside of you for easy reading inflight and try it when a very few people is connected 1-3. It is highly rewarding and an entire new experience flying ATC. You will never be flying alone again :D
