One advantage of flight simulation is that I can take things slowly to build up my skill. For instance, using GPS and autopilot to navigate (crawling), then flying with VOR navigation while backing it up with GPS and autopilot, then flying completely on VOR with autopilot, then disconnecting the autopilot and hand flying IFR using only VORs and no GPS or autopilot for the complete flight (running).
