Jim,
Yes seem them "bill" had sent me the link to them. The only downfall is they don't operate near as smooth as the ones that came with them for FSX. Also having 8 of these gauges in use...I would like to not combine any of the gauges so I could simulate steam gauges as they would be in a real plane as much as possible. I know we can't all be beggers...and it's great these guys are making them work but it's not quite up to how they current work on FSX. I ran them for a few days to try it out and they just didn't seem to be as fluid and also being combined, made it unrealistic. I hope they continue development on them so they get better... cause I love xplane 10.... enough the gauges are just not used while I enjoy my new xmas present "Xplane global"....

What a great thread, I have enjoyed reading it.
What about Prepar3d, where or how would you guys rate it against these 2 sims?

Ok so I installed the xplane10 demo and I'm very impressed so far. The default baron is like payware in fsx. Some questions though. If I purchase the product, do I need to install scenery on top of it or is the default sufficient for PE? What about the weather? I saw where Rex did something for xplane called rexplane? Now I've read where with the full product there are no terminal buildings at the big international airports, just runways, taxiways, apron, etc. is this true?? Just wanting some advice as far as addons for xplane. Any recommendations are welcomed. Thanks!

Denny, p3d has long term potential if LM continues its development. However, they serve two masters...the DoD/commercial market and then everyone else. Those users often have completely different requirements to a home use. Bear in mind, it's currently just supposed to be for commercial/academic use.
If they finally bite the bullet and commit to licensing it for the retail market, then I would hope to see them moving the ball forward with an fs11-like product.

Justin, I'm using stock scenery. Also, I would encourage you to run the latest beta...the autogen was significantly improved (although there aren't any night lighting textures for the new buildings, that's coming next).
FWIW, I don't run with any addon scenery or plugins other than PE. It's a pretty killer sim right out of the box. I will consider installing OpenSceneryX (a huge library of objects that are used by many scenery packages out there) and installing some local custom scenery now that I have a reasonable machine and with 64-bit support coming (to avoid any memory issues).

Thanks Keith for your response. Now does it matter exactly where I purchase the DVDs from? I see sportys is advertising $79.99 and then amazon has it for $60.

I've never bought it from anywhere other than x-plane.com, so I can't really say.

I have always bought directly from
http://www.x-plane.com as well. The cheaper versions of X-Plane might be "regional" versions that don't include whole world scenery. I highly recommend buying direct and biting the bullet for the whole world, rather than just the regional versions.

Ok so I bought the home version and installed. A few concerns though. Why are there no terminals, hangers, airport vehicles at any airport?? Second, why is a 747 at a regional airport?? Any way to get the traffic straightend out? Just a little help with setting up x plane x for best optimization would be appreciated. Don't want to feel like I threw 80 dollars down the drain. Thanks.

Justin,
X-Plane doesn't come with any terminal scenery (other than SEA) out of the box. Were you lead to believe otherwise? You can download all sorts of scenery from many sources, though, if that's important to you. X-plane.org, X-aviation.com, etc.
As for the AI traffic, it all goes away when you fly on PE anyway.
