Sorry if this is a dumb post but you don't fly through clouds in the pattern (VFR pattern)... that would illegal in real life... there's cloud and visibility requirements in the AIM

Now if you're just doing it for fun (isn't that the point!?) then have at it! If you're striving for realism you'd fly around the clouds, or lower (or higher) than them.

All very good points. I got the impression he inadvertently got into clouds. I find that this can happen very suddenly, unexpectedly, (and unrealistically) in xplane.

Yes, it was inadvertently. In X-Plane (10.11 with no cloud add-ons/plug-ins) with "download weather from the net" and the default cloud rendering settings, I see clouds, but I don't see flying into a particular cloud. All of a sudden the view out the window was grey, but I didn't see the cloud as I approached it. And in fact, I stopped my flying session (after properly finishing the flight, of course), because I didn't think I was supposed to fly VFR in this situation. But, since this is not real life, I merely found it funny after the fact!

Another question:

When the controller says "verify you have the numbers" then I just say something like "Cessna 3AB we have the numbers GOLF (or whatever the ATIS currently is)", right? I'm not asked to say what the wind is, I guess.

Just finished pattern work at KSNA, 3 laps (I did a touch and go every time), not nervous, no hiccups. Getting the hang of it. Next time (hopefully tomorrow??) I'll take the V-1.

To take the V-1, do I say "John Wayne Ground, Cessna 383 AB, would like to take V-1, request taxi to the active etc. etc."?

Oh, and today was the first time that I had traffic while doing pattern work. I was on the down wind and saw a jet pull up, and the controller (after I checked in with down wind leg) told me there's a jet on the runway, and I was able to see the jet climb while I was on final, just totally friggin' awesome! I love PE.

Correct. Every time you call for taxi, regardless of if you're VFR or IFR, you need to tell the ground controller 1. Where you are located on the field and 2. Whether or not you have the weather information.

Step 1 to getting on the controller's good side right there.

Yeah, I got on... but didn't get very far. Was just too tired to do anything tonight. And a lot going on tomorrow, so not sure when I'll be on next. Hopefully, soon.

Thank you for your responses to my last two questions! I finally attempted and passed my V1 today. I did learn that after pulling off the runway you're supposed to stay on tower frequency.
