Keith, I understand that adding extra words is not the way to go but there is something going on, Jeff just confirmed it. It is the beginning of the transmission for few seconds only that many times will let one ( not just me) miss the call sign.

The fact that you can hear a controller just fine after a few seconds simply means that the GAIN on the mic has been turned up to compensate for an input volume that is too low to begin with.
Please, I ask that you allow us to handle the solution when it requires explicit knowledge of the technology that's used to make this work.
