I tried the version that was sent to me...it's not backwards compatible with the existing server. So, at this point, the only recourse is to plan for everyone to do the upgrade to the latest version of the voice client library (pilots, controllers and all commercial customers). It will happen, but it'll have to be scheduled well in advance.

Since this will require and upgrade for everyone, I'm going to use the opportunity to clean up a few things (ident for FSX, transponder offset for FSX, etc) across all the clients and possibly introduce a new feature, too. This should make the mandatory upgrade pill easier to swallow.

I am 100% committed to getting a Mac 64-bit build done. Now that we've exhausted all options for an in-place upgrade and the mass upgrade is the only option, I will get serious about setting a date for this to happen.

It's not lost on me that there is much to be gained by having a stable 64-bit Mac and Windows plugin here. Once a date is set, I'll be sure to let you know.

Keith, thanks for hanging in there with this. I miss the friendly voices of PilotEdge. Standing by to copy...

Thanks for the update Keith! Not trying to stir the pot or anything, just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something. I will continue to standby!

No stirring at all, it was a good reminder to post an update about the plan.

Some potentially big news here. As I sat down for a late night dinner the other night, I started thinking through the mechanics of getting everyone upgraded on the same day (or more accurately, preparing the entire user base for the fact that they wouldn't be able to access the system until after they upgraded). Once again, I found myself racking my brain to find ways to make this work without having to do that (there is no question in my mind that we would lose a portion of our user base and commercial user base if we had to do this).

The good news is that an idea formed about how to continue to run the 32-bit voice code from within the 64-bit xplane plugin, and I think I have a solution. I'm going to run some tests as soon as I can and get going on this when I can. As soon as I have updates, this is where I'll post them. You can expect this to move in parallel to the development of the new VFR training program, which is equally important for some commercial operators.

If this works, it will NOT require an upgrade of the voice library, which means everyone can keep running what they're running, and we'll simply introduce a new 64-bit mac plugin. Fingers crossed!

Sounds good to me! I just bought a new MacBook Pro Retina and I'm having a blast flying V9.7 at 90 plus fps with awesome rendering settings. I've even had the chance to fly V10 in both 32 bit and 64 bit and I'm actually excited about the 30-60 fps with decent rendering options. However, tonight I tried flying V10 32 bit but apparently the controllers couldn't hear me even though I could hear them. I switched back to V9.7 and had a nice flight from GCN to HND. Can't wait to fly V10 more, though!

Happy to debug that 32-bit with you if you like, should be pretty easy to nail down. Email me a time when you'd like to test it.
