Yep that's what I meant - I should have clarified

Keith,
Quick question and how it relates to the OP.
"I flew into EGE the other day.... kinda a long flight from socal so I did it in steps....
Will be neat once it's staffed."
Only CTR will be staffed between the current coverage again and the new locations correct? And my question is in regards to how Ryan mentioned flying to EGE in steps. There will be NO coverage below what CTR will provide correct? And I'm guessing the CTR controllers won't be issuing instructions for those on the ground like we get with VATSIM.
Thanks,
John

I have a few questions regarding the expansion. Can you please elaborate on what covering KSLC means? I assume this will include Salt Lake Departure and Approach and if so can I request flight following out of SLC VFR? You mentioned this is catering to the transport category and this is why I am asking the questions regarding VFR
Also if you grow again in the future, would this possibly include Class Delta airports near SLC, KOGD for example.
I am considering starting my PPL in the real world at an uncontrolled tower just south of KSLC, it would be fun to fly into SLC in my 172 on PE.
Thanks
Jon

Jon,
Earlier in the thread (emphasis mine):
Keith Smith wrote:We hope there are enough fields being covered such that fflights to the satellites aren't a common operation.
We prefer to provide full service to the fields we do operate. These controllers are going to run 5 ARTCCs at the same time. Satellite ops will be discouraged if not flat out denied. We'll discuss internally and make a decision prior to launch.
controllers won't necessarily know where the satellites are and the sops won't have any guidance on them.
Whilst the question related to IFR, the implication of this is that anything that isn't a flight between SLC and another serviced airport, you can expect to be denied flight following, in any case there probably won't be drone traffic outside the core area, so you might as well fly offline with an AI programme.

Thanks for the reply. Time for me to consider a turboprop or the NGX for use from Socal to SLC

Covering SLC means that we would cover all ATC positions to get you in or out of KSLC (and only KSLC), that would include all the local and below positions, along with approach and departure. VFR operations into/out of KSLC will be allowed.
However if your destination isn't a "covered airport" or in ZLA you can expect to lose radar services as soon as you leave the immediate KSLC area.
Regarding future expansion, it's a bit too early to talk about what the next round of airports would be.

I look forward to depart KSLC VFR, flying around the valley and entering back for a visual approach. Best wishes with the expansion.

Just want to clarify my understanding of how the expansion will change things for basic-only subscribers:
Currently (I've not done this, but I think this is how it is):
Basic users can connect to the network anywhere in the world, and the radios will work anywhere in the world. Of course, ATC is only provided in the ZLA area.
After the expansion:
Basic users can only connect to the network within the ZLA area. If starting within ZLA the user will be disconnected when leaving the ZLA area.
Do I have this correct, or am I confused?
Thanks!

Evan, you won't be able to fly in the Seattle, Oakland, Salt Lake, Denver and ABQ ARTCCs without a subscription to the expanded coverage area.
