Hey Fellow Pilots - Just curious what weather program you use for FSX and the pro's/con's that you feel about it.

Thanks!

Mark -- are you talking about how do we look up the weather? or how do we get the weather into FSX?

For looking up, I use fore flight entirely for all aspects of my flying.

For getting it into the sim, only things i'm aware of is the default built in... i wish there was a better one -- the # of times that weather has been just plain wrong and ATIS has had a different runway specified than what ATC gives me, or has me landing with a tailwind... crazy!

Active Sky 2012. I have used Active Sky for many years and past three versions, each one an improvement over the last and the current version gets updated for any bugs and improvements in operation. Active Sky also works with Prepar3d so if you transition to P3d (which doesn't have built in real world weather) you can continue using it.

+1 for Active Sky 2012. Great program, and it has completely solved the wind shift problem in FSX, although that is more an issue at higher altitudes.

I have been using Active Sky Evolution for a couple of years now, really good once you get it configured.

I've looked into AS2012 but I'm not sure there are enough features to justify the purchase. Seems like most of the new stuff is in the graphics side of it.

During the time that I used to use FS9(and some FSX), I indeed liked RealEnviroment Pro. There was something funky about it asking which season you wanted to install, presumably restricting the textures to one season at a time. This never really bothered me. Never tried ActiveSky.

I have been using REX (RealEnvironmentExtreme) since release. I love all the features and HD textures that are available. I had AS2012 and it does the same thing and models haze and fog better than REX did. However, REX Essential has fixed all that and added some other cool features like flight planning, shareable texture profiles, VATSIM weather (not that I ever use it), and much more. I am not sure how the price is comparatively, but REX has always had free upgrades to the newest versions.

If you want a free one that does a relatively good job, try RealWx Lite:

There's no textures, for that you need a third party program... but the weather generation is better than default fsx I've found.
